Baseball Recap: Helix Extends Winning Streak to Four

Helix had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Valhalla Norsemen, sneaking past 4-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Highlanders also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2021.

Matt Martinez looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kie Smith was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Angel Watkins, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Helix pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Valhalla, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Helix will have a chance to go back-to-back against Valhalla: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
