Basketball Recap: Southern Valley Comes Up Short

Southern Valley suffered their biggest loss since December 10, 2024 on Thursday. They were dealt a 60-33 defeat at the hands of the Bertrand Vikings. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-11.

Bertrand was led to victory by Thunder Nelson and Marcus Hernandez. Nelson went 10 for 21 on his way to 23 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals, while Hernandez went 7 for 11 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks. The game was Nelson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Hatfield, who posted seven points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Southern Valley's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Bertrand, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Valley will head out to square off against Arapahoe at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bertrand, they will venture away from home to challenge South Loup at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bertrand knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully South Loup likes a good challenge.
