Football Recap: Gregori Comes Up Short

Gregori managed to keep up with Merced until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Jaguars took a blow against the Bears, falling 45-13. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost five in a row.

Although Gregori took the loss, they still got scores from Noah Wegner and Chris Knight.

Vicente Cortez was a one-man wrecking crew For Merced. as he rushed for 60 yards and two scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 60 rushing yards gave Cortez a new career-high. Hayden Czirban was another key player, picking up 110 receiving yards and one TD.

Gregori's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Merced, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gregori will head out to square off against Atwater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Merced, they will venture away from home to challenge Downey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 950 yards in their previous games.
