Football Recap: Justine Tofi's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Laguna Creek over Elk Grove

Laguna Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 19-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elk Grove Thundering Herd. The matchup was a 12-12 toss-up at halftime, but the Cardinals couldn't quite close it out.

Laguna Creek's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Justine Tofi, who picked up 115 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 38 yards. Tofi also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending three passes.

Laguna Creek didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Casey McCoy. Another thorn in Elk Grove's side was Ava Urbano, who picked up two sacks and made four total tackles.

Laguna Creek's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Elk Grove, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Meanwhile, Elk Grove will take on rival Sheldon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Thundering Herd 12.3, the Huskies 4.6) so any points scored will be well earned.
