Baseball Game Preview: University City Centurions vs. Mira Mesa Marauders

For the second straight game, University City will face off against Mira Mesa. The Centurions will host the Marauders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. University City's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Mira Mesa's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, University City turned things around against Mira Mesa on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Marauders a 5-0 shutout.

Not much got past Thiago Quillin, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Mira Mesa off the board. Quillin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, AJ Curry was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Kaplan, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: University City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.

Mira Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 12-15. As for University City, their victory bumped their record up to 15-12.
