Basketball Recap: Winside Falls Despite Big Games from Jahiem Hamik and Caleb Offner

Winside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. The game between them and the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers didn't end well, with the Winside Wildcats falling 53-36.

Winside's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Offner, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 12 points and seven blocks, and Jahiem Hamik, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. Those seven blocks gave Offner a new career-high.

Anthony Reader continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Newman Grove/St. Edward, putting up 21 points in addition to six boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Reader is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcos Paez, who posted ten points along with six steals and five boards.

Winside's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winside will head out to face off against Tri County Northeast at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers take on the Palmer Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
