The East Wake Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Southern Wayne Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Wake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
East Wake came into their game last Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 8-0 to South Johnston. The game marked the first time this season in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.
Madison Keith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Wayne). They put the hurt on Smithfield-Selma with a sharp 20-5 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Saints in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won eight in a row.
Morgan Brimberry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Brimberry was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Strickland, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With the defeat, East Wake broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-5. As for Southern Wayne, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-13.
Southern Wayne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: East Wake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for Southern Wayne, though, as they've only averaged .198. Will they be able to contain East Wake's hitters?
East Wake took their win against Southern Wayne in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 19-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
