League recap: Hennessey tops Alva to extend winning streak

2A District 1 recap November 13, 2013

Hennessey extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Alva, 20-12. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.

Colton Johnson was a key player and the best on defense this week as Chisholm beat Tonkawa. The 5-foot-10 junior recorded 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.

Tabor Johns was a passing and rushing force as Hennessey bested the Goldbugs. Johns' key target this week was Edgar Fierro, who caught 2 passes for 17 yards.

Johns was a beast in the backfield as Rick Luetjen's team beat Alva.

Taggart Brown put up the best numbers in passing as the Longhorns beat the Buccaneers. He finished with 8 completions for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Chisholm's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Longhorns feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 1,613 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Austin Swann has 18 catches for 480 yards.

The Eagles' Johns needs only 83 yards against Crooked Oak next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Johns has rushed for 917 yards on 139 carries so far this year.

Chisholm led the league in scoring this week after putting up 33 points on Tonkawa. Bryce Stewart ran for 207 yards during the win.
