Recap: Pueblo Central Wildcats vs. Widefield Gladiators
The Pueblo Central Wildcats came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 58-48 win over Widefield. Given Pueblo Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Widefield is ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Xavier Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 30 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaime Enciso gonzalez, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Several Gladiators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paul Mitchell, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Jayden Andrews, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Pueblo Central's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Widefield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.
Pueblo Central will head out on the road to face off against Harrison at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Harrison knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Pueblo Central likes a good challenge. As for Widefield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rampart at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Rampart is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
