Baseball Recap: Highland Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Highland had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Michigan City on Saturday. The Trojans blew past the Wolves 15-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won five matchups in a row.

Austin Gold looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Highland let Danijel Zekavica and Caden Quigg run wild. Zekavica went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI, while Quigg went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Quigg a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Boyd, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Highland pushed their record up to 9-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Michigan City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Coming up, Highland will be playing at home against Hobart at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Michigan City, they will head out to square off against South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
