Basketball Game Preview: Lincoln Railsplitters vs. Leyden Eagles

The Lincoln Railsplitters will challenge the Leyden Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Leyden took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Lincoln, who comes in off a win.

Lincoln is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 71-26 win over Lanphier. Given the Railsplitters' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 199th, while the Lions are ranked 407th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Makinley Knapp was her usual excellent self, putting up 22 points. Those 22 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Piper Whiteman, who posted 13 points.

Meanwhile, Leyden suffered their biggest defeat since February 12, 2024 on Saturday. They were dealt a 59-32 loss at the hands of Proviso East.

Lincoln moved to 9-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Leyden, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.
