Baseball Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Hinsdale Central Red Devils

The York Dukes will challenge the Hinsdale Central Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. York is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

York is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Downers Grove South on Saturday as they made off with an 18-3 victory. Considering the Dukes have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Riggins Kohl looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, York got a massive performance out of Josh Fleming, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Fleming a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Drew Gami, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Hinsdale Central came into Saturday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out Leyden 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted against the Eagles since April 22, 2017.

York pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Hinsdale Central, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.

York beat Hinsdale Central 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Dukes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
