Recap: Mater Dei Knights vs. Centralia Orphans
There's no place like home for the Mater Dei Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They put the hurt on Centralia with a sharp 66-46 win on Thursday. Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Centralia is ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mater Dei was led to victory by Alyssa Koerkenmeier and Amelia Beer. Koerkenmeier scored 16 points, while Beer scored 16 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maris Zurliene, who scored seven points.
Mater Dei has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Centralia, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-9.
Mater Dei will be playing at home against Nashville at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Nashville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Centralia, they will head out on the road to square off against Mt. Vernon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Mt. Vernon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
