Montrose proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 34) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Palisade Bulldogs 45-43. The win almost wasn't to be: the Red Hawks were down 21-5 in the second quarter.
Kaleb Ferguson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 12 to rack up 14 points along with eight boards and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Rocco, who posted six points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, Palisade still got an impressive performance from Hunter Howard, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 19 points and three steals. Carter Hayward was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Montrose's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Palisade, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Durango the next time they take the court. Palisade will host Durango at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, while Montrose will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th.
