Basketball Recap: Triumph Charter Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Fabian Nu?es and Antonio Garcia III

After flying high against Lakeview Charter last Friday, Triumph Charter came back down to earth. The Triumph Charter Jaguars lost to the Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals on the road by a 66-47 margin on Saturday. The Jaguars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Antonio Garcia III and Fabian Nu?es certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Garcia III dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards, while Nu?es went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points. With that strong performance, Garcia III is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Joel Zaragoza, who posted two points along with eight boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Triumph Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

It was another big night for Jose Padilla, who went 11 of 15 en route to 26 points in addition to five assists and three steals for Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary. That makes it six consecutive games in which Padilla has scored at least a third of Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary's points. Gio Chavez was another key player, going 6 for 13 on his way to 17 points.

Triumph Charter's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Triumph Charter will take on Valley Oaks CES at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, they are taking a road trip to square off against St. Genevieve at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
