Softball Recap: Maple Hill Beats Cairo-Durham for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Maple Hill waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They beat the Cairo-Durham Mustangs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-3. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Halle Feldman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Feldman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Amalya LaPlante and Sydney Rogers did most of the damage at the plate: LaPlante went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Rogers went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that LaPlante has snagged this season.

Maple Hill pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cairo-Durham, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Hill will challenge Albany at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cairo-Durham, they will take on Coxsackie-Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last four games the Riverhawks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
