Softball Recap: Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Takes a Loss

After flying high against Lexington last Wednesday, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley came back down to earth. The Falcons lost 10-2 to the Tri-Valley Vikings on Friday. The Falcons have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Mallory Rosendahl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Young, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-4. As for Tri-Valley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0-1.

Looking ahead, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will host Iroquois West at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Tri-Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge LeRoy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
