Cheshire faced Xavier in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Rams skirted past the Falcons 3-2. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Cheshire took Xavier into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-28, 25-16, 25-23, 23-25, 15-9.

Matti Lilback paced Cheshire's offense, picking up 21 kills. Lilback got some help from Bradley Fang and his 51 assists. Finally, Lilback was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.

Despite the loss, Xavier saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Tran had 12 digs.

Cheshire's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Xavier, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Looking ahead, Cheshire will head out to face off against Shelton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gaels will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. Xavier does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
