League recap: Simmonds throws longest pass in league this season for Bend

Creighton Simmonds and Caleb Bowen provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Mountain View. The connection went for 74 yards, the longest such play in 5A Special District 1 this season.

The Cougars took down Bend 37-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Conor Nehl threw for 275 yards and 3 touchdowns during the win.

Mountain View's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Cody Anthony chipped in 68 yards. Keenan Springer helped Mountain View's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 49 yards.

Grant Lannin made the biggest impact on defense this week as Brian Crum's team defeated the Lava Bears. The 6-foot-4 senior racked up 3 sacks.

He went 20-33 with 0 interceptions.

Anthony was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 68 yards as the Cougars topped Bend. Teammate Springer added to the ground attack by rushing for 48 yards.

Mountain View's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Cougars feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Nehl has thrown for 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Hjelm has 45 catches for 756 yards.

Redmond made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 12,821 from 12,978. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 54-40 victory over the Panthers last week.
