Softball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Belgrade Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on April 10th.

As for Belgrade, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Belgrade's part, the result came thanks to Olivia Mills's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. Mills has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Belgrade saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailee White, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Russell didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-1 defeat against Helena on the 29th. As for Belgrade, they will challenge Gallatin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
