Athens is a perfect 9-0 against Auburn since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Gage Honn produced another solid effort rushing for 206 yards and four scores while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Honn is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 150 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Kirk, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Athens was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 295 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in six consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Auburn scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 48-35 to Pleasant Plains.
Athens will have to contain Chance Crissey as he made an impact in Auburn's last game. He rushed for 190 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Crissey is now averaging an impressive 104.8 rushing yards per game.
Auburn's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Athens, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Athens has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 303.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Auburn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 206.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
