Baseball Recap: Maclay Gets the Win

Maclay's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They skirted past the Blountstown Tigers 6-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 two weeks ago.

Ben Wagnon made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Henry Richardson, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JR Thompson, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Maclay's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Blountstown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maclay will challenge St. John Paul II at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Maclay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Blountstown, they will square off against Franklin County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Blountstown surely won't give up without a fight.
