Football Game Preview: Velma Jackson Falcons vs. Eupora Eagles

For the first time this season, Velma Jackson will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Eupora Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Velma Jackson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Eupora likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Velma Jackson ended up a good deal behind Leake Central and lost 52-35.

Velma Jackson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Trevon Willis, who rushed for 93 yards and three TDs on only ten carries, and Demontre Strange, who rushed for 85 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Willis didn't just play on offense: he also made six total tackles and defended one pass.

Meanwhile, Eupora is still undefeated this season after their game against Noxapater on Friday, but Noxapater came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 14-12. The 14-point effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Velma Jackson better keep an eye on Peyton Perkins. He was instrumental in Eupora's win, rushing for 101 yards and one touchdown, while also throwing for 108 yards and one TD. Perkins was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. 90 of Perkins' passing yards were hauled in by Jai Wofford, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Velma Jackson now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Eupora, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Velma Jackson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 255.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Eupora struggles in that department as they've been averaging 241.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
