Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Baird). Everything went their way against the Jayton Jaybirds on Saturday as Baird made off with a 24-14 win. Considering the Bears have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Baird got a massive performance out of Cassidy Lucas, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-6. Those two home runs gave Lucas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Macey Richey, who scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Lucas wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Baird lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
The victory made it two in a row for Baird and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.5 runs over those games. As for Jayton, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.
Coincidentally, Baird and Jayton will both be playing Hamlin the next time they take the field. Jayton will host Hamlin at 4:00 p.m. on April 1, while Baird will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on April 4.
