Basketball Recap: Arapahoe Comes Up Short

Arapahoe was the 62-46 winner over Maxwell when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Arapahoe Warriors took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maxwell Wildcats on Tuesday. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Arapahoe still got an impressive performance from Eli Shafer, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Shafer is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. Hayden Sich was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 10 points.

Even though they lost, Arapahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Maxwell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Huffman, who went 10 of 23 on his way to 27 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Huffman has scored at least a third of Maxwell's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Reyes, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.

Arapahoe's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Maxwell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6.

Arapahoe will head out to take on Medicine Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Maxwell, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Maxwell Wildcats challenge the Hershey Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Maxwell is facing Hershey at the right time seeing as Hershey is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
