Baseball Recap: Sumner Academy Triumphs

Sumner Academy's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Harmon Hawks 8-6. The Sabres' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kyle McClish and Jaeden Hernandez made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, McClish tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, McClish went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Hernandez scored a run while going 1-for-4. Those RBI marked the first that McClish brought in this season.

In other batting news, Lucas Kehoe was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavian Gisolf, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Sumner Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Harmon, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Sumner Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-0 defeat against Bonner Springs on the 9th. As for Harmon, they will head out on the road to face off against Topeka at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
