Volleyball Recap: Pope John Paul II Comes Up Short

Pope John Paul II and Catholic - N.I. squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Pope John Paul II had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Pope John Paul II sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 15-25, 25-16, 10-25, 15-7.

Despite the defeat, Pope John Paul II saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayla Brown had 27 digs and one assist. Those 27 digs set a new season-high mark for Brown.

Among those leading the charge was Gracie Neck, who had 14 digs and two aces. That's the most digs she has posted since back in October.

Pope John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 22-16. As for Catholic - N.I., they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-16 record this season.

As of now, neither Pope John Paul II nor Catholic - N.I. have any future games scheduled.
