Polk County is 1-9 against Aquinas since September of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Slammers will head out on the road to square off against the Monarchs at 6:00 p.m. Polk County has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Polk County's tournament run continued when they took on Ord on Saturday. The Slammers lost 21-12 to the Chanticleers.
Polk County got a massive performance out of Mady Berggren, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Chloe Schott, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Aquinas narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past St. Paul 13-12.
Ainsley Wollmer was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Jordyn Vandenberg also deserves some recognition as she hit her first doubles of the season.
Aquinas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Aquinas is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Polk County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Polk County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Aquinas struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Polk County suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Aquinas in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Slammers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
