Softball Game Preview: Highland Huskies vs. Beacon Bulldogs

The Highland Huskies will face off against the Beacon Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Beacon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Highland took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-3 win over Spackenkill.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Beacon). They never let Liberty get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won three games in a row.

Kat Ruffy made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meg Nicholson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Emma Soltish was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Beacon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Highland pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Beacon, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
