Preview: Centennial Knights vs. Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans
Two dominant guards in Diamond Leslie and Myla Benton are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Centennial Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Centennial scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They secured a 72-68 W over Kell. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Centennial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Leslie, who scored 29 points. Leslie's trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Perez, who scored 23 points.
Meanwhile, Greater Atlanta Christian didn't have too much trouble with Chattahoochee on the road on Friday as they won 44-28.
Greater Atlanta Christian's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Benton, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Asia Johnson, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Johnson pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sydney Lucas, who scored nine points.
Centennial's record is now 4-13. Greater Atlanta Christian's record is now 6-11.
Centennial didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Greater Atlanta Christian in their previous meeting on January 2nd, but they still walked away with a 53-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Centennial since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
