Softball Game Preview: Ramona Bulldogs vs. Steele Canyon Cougars

The Ramona Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ramona came out on top against Valley Center on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 14-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Kayla Gibson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tenley Devermann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Ramona hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Steele Canyon had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Eagles. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.

Hailey Trujillo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Marina Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Ramona's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-13-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Steele Canyon, their record now sits at 13-11-1.

Ramona might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Steele Canyon in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
