Basketball Recap: Yazoo City Takes a Loss

Yazoo City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Nimitz Cougars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Indians came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in Mississippi, while the Cougars are ranked 386th in Texas).

Nimitz's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jimiren Ratliff, who posted 17 points. Ratliff continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaden Bergeron, who put up 14 points.

Yazoo City's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Nimitz, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Yazoo City will venture away from home to square off against Gentry at 8:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Nimitz, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-53 loss against Wilson on the 27th.
