League recap: Hughes extends winning streak with victory over East Coweta

AAAAAA Region 3 recap Oct. 30, 2012

Hughes extended the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 3 this week by beating East Coweta, 28-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Hughes led the league in scoring this week after putting up 28 points on the Indians. Jahlil Mathis-Ellis in the win.

Douglas County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Ellis Richardson threw for 138 and one touchdown and Terrell Gibson had 145 yards receiving. On the ground Gibson chipped in 79 yards. Kenny McMillian helped Douglas County's passing attack out by catching one ball for four yards.

The Tigers' Richardson and Anthony Graves have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Richardson has thrown for 1149 yards this season, while Graves has 26 catches for 367 yards. Keion Davis from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 645 yards.

A big matchup in AAAAAA Region 3 this week will be when Hughes takes on Tri-Cities. At the moment, the Panthers are in first, while the Bulldogs are in third.

Douglas County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,040 from 5,555. The advance stemmed from a 21-13 victory over Jason Respert's team last week.
