Baseball Game Preview: Gallatin County Hawks vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats

The Gallatin County Hawks will venture away from home to face off against the Mt. Vernon Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Gallatin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Mt. Vernon will be up against a hot Gallatin County squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Hawks walked away with a 5-1 win over Cobden on Thursday.

Kaden Downen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Gallatin County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Max Brockett was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Mt. Vernon couldn't beat Mt. Carmel on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Wildcats came up short against the Aces, falling 12-5. The Wildcats have struggled against the Aces recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Mt. Vernon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Meinschein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Gallatin County's record now sits at 12-6. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Gallatin County might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
