Baseball Recap: Elkins Has No Trouble Against Notre Dame

Elkins never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Notre Dame on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Fighting Irish with a sharp 23-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Fighting Irish: they've now won three in a row.

Braden Cooper was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cooper was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Trent Stone was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Isaac Shepler was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

The win got Elkins back to even at 1-1. As for Notre Dame, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Elkins will take on Robert C. Byrd at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Notre Dame, they will challenge Grafton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
