Softball Game Preview: Conneaut Spartans vs. Perry Pirates

Conneaut is 0-3 against Perry since April of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Spartans will take on the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Conneaut has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Conneaut is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 12-1 to Jefferson Area.

Meanwhile, Perry waltzed into their game on Monday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Sophie Sivon's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Perry let Arianna Rogers and Sydney Collins run wild. Rogers went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Collins went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Rogers has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rosalyn Tharp, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Perry kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 13-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Perry pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Conneaut, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Conneaut might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Perry when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
