Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Cross County blew Hampton out of the water with a 54-20 final score. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Hawks are ranked 277th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cross County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ema Dickey, who posted 11 points along with seven boards and five assists. Lindee Kelley was another key player, putting up six points and four steals.
Cross County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, East Butler had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They managed a 39-34 victory over the Bulldogs.
East Butler's win came from a few key players Cross County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Margret Pekarek, who had 12 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lillie Kriz, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.
Cross County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 24.3 points. As for East Butler, the win got them back to even at 8-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cross County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like East Butler struggles in that department as they've been averaging 40.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
