Basketball Recap: Vermilion Falls Despite Big Games from Mason Cooper and Brock Meyers

Vermilion was the 56-51 winner over Edison when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Vermilion Sailors took a 45-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Edison Chargers. While the Sailors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Chargers 14-8 in the first quarter.

Vermilion's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Brock Meyers and Mason Cooper. Meyers went 7 for 14 en route to 22 points and six rebounds, while Cooper posted ten points and six boards. Those 22 points gave Meyers a new career-high.

Coltyn Meagrow continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Edison, going 7 of 17 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cole Leimeister, who scored 16 points.

Vermilion has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Edison, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-10.

Vermilion didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-44 defeat against Clearview on the 28th. Edison has also already played their next contest, a 60-59 win against Port Clinton on the 29th.
