Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Defeat Ends Castle's Winning Streak

If Castle was riding high fresh off their 62-31 takedown of Evansville Bosse last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Castle Knights took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Evansville Central Bears on Wednesday. The Knights were down 51-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jordan Scott, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Izabell Grantz, who went 6 of 15 en route to 14 points and five boards.

Madalynn Shirley was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 35 points and 14 rebounds for Evansville Central. The matchup was Shirley's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Madelyn Bender also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Castle moved to 15-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Evansville Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Castle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Evansville Central, they will challenge Boonville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
