Baseball Recap: Monmouth Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Monmouth Academy dropped their record down to 9-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Sacopee Valley Hawks by a score of 4-3. If the Mustangs were looking for revenge after losing 6-1 to the Hawks when the teams met back in June of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Sacopee Valley, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

For Sacopee Valley's part, Braiden Croteau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Croteau has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Silas Nielsen was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Bradly Metcalf was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Coming up, Monmouth Academy will venture away from home to take on Lisbon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greyhounds have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Sacopee Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Old Orchard Beach at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
