Softball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs

The Patrick Henry Patriots will head out to square off against the Otay Ranch Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Patrick Henry's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Patrick Henry's last matchup with San Marcos could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. Patrick Henry lost 14-1 to San Marcos.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Otay Ranch). Everything went their way against Torrey Pines on Monday as Otay Ranch made off with a 7-1 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Zoey Gonzales spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on eight hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Phillips, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Kalina Sangalang also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Patrick Henry's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Otay Ranch, the win got them back to even at 2-2-1.

Patrick Henry couldn't quite finish off Otay Ranch in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Patrick Henry avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
