Basketball Recap: Viera Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Viera can now relate to. They received a blow on Thursday as they fell 56-39 to the Bayside Bears. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 59-40.

Bayside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelina Spence, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. Spence also grabbed eight steals, which is notable because Bayside is 14-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Shamora Scott, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Viera has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Bayside, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 18-7.

Viera does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bayside, they and Heritage will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
