Softball Recap: West County Bulldogs vs. Mt. Vernon Mountaineers

West County lost a close one when they played on Friday but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 15-4 walloping at the hands of the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs West County has scored all season.

For Mt. Vernon's part, Cheyenne Bieber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Bieber has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Bieber was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Molly Daniels was a standout: she scored three runs while going 4-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now hit four or more in the last three games she's played. Ally Burk was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for West County and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

West County will stay at home for another game and welcome Kennett at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mt. Vernon will take on Ste. Genevieve at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Mt. Vernon is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
