Softball Game Preview: Dayton Dust Devils vs. Fernley Vaqueros

For the second straight game, Dayton will face off against Fernley. The Dust Devils will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Vaqueros at 11:00 a.m. Dayton has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 21.

The home team had come away the winner the last three times Dayton and Fernley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Dust Devils fell 5-1 to the Vaqueros on Thursday.

LaSade Conti spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dayton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macie Hannum, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Fernley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Dayton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.

Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dayton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .395. However, it's not like Fernley struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
