Southwestern and Carlinville are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Piasa Birds will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Johnny Kunz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Ike Austin was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Carlinville fell victim to New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vipers.

Southwestern's defeat dropped their record down to 10-18. As for Carlinville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Southwestern took their win against Carlinville in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Piasa Birds repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
