Recap: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Sparta Bulldogs
The Valmeyer Pirates kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They were outmatched by Sparta on the road and fell 67-39. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Valmeyer in their matchups with Sparta: they've now lost six in a row.
Sparta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Robert Greer out in front who scored 12 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Damian Lanton, who scored 19 points.
Valmeyer's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Sparta, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Valmeyer will head out on the road to face off against Steeleville at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. As for Sparta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carlyle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carlyle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Sparta in Illinois (Carlyle is ranked 99th, while Sparta is ranked 290th).
