The Sumner-Eddyville-Miller Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Franklin Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Sumner-Eddyville-Miller, who comes in off a win.
Back in December of 2024, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller beat Sandhills/Thedford 47-41. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sumner-Eddyville-Miller to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaycelyn Hoos, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Arbuthnot, who posted ten points in addition to eight steals and six boards.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Franklin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 38-33 heartbreaker at the hands of Lawrence-Nelson.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller will have to keep a close watch on Lyra Peterman and Audra Goosic, a pair of players who had a big impact on Franklin's prior game. Peterman put up 13 points and four steals, while Goosic posted five points and three steals.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Franklin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
