Basketball Recap: Chenango Valley Comes Up Short

Chenango Valley lost against Elmira back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Chenango Valley Warriors fell to the Elmira Express 56-51. While the Warriors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Express 18-11 in the first quarter.

Leading Elmira to victory were Mariah Matias and Addison Taft. Matias dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Taft posted 15 points and six steals. Matias is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ashaya Wallace, who put up seven points and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Chenango Valley and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Elmira, their record now sits at 10-3.

Chenango Valley and Elmira should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New York Rankings. Chenango Valley (ranked 173rd) will meet Owego Free Academy (ranked 418th) at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Similarly, Elmira will face off against Vestal at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday up 243 places (69 vs. 312).
