Softball Recap: Mayville Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Mayville waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Owendale-Gagetown Bulldogs. Considering the Wildcats have won seven contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Fryers was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mayville got a massive performance out of Addyson Jacobs, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Jacobs a new career-high. Payton Mitchell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Mayville's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Owendale-Gagetown, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Mayville will venture away from home to face off against Kingston at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Owendale-Gagetown, they will challenge Akron-Fairgrove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
