Preview: Grayson County Blue Devils vs. Giles Spartans
The Grayson County Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Giles Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Grayson County has not done well against Galax recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Grayson County took down Galax 28-14. The win was just what Grayson County needed coming off of a 23-0 defeat in their prior contest.
Eli Gillespie was on fire: he rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry. Gillespie was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. Keyshawn Phipps did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 93 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Giles' four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Fort Chiswell with points to spare, taking the game 36-22. The victory was just what Giles needed coming off of a 47-13 defeat in their prior game.
Grayson County's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Giles, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.
Everything came up roses for Grayson County against Giles when the teams last played back in September as the squad secured a 42-7 win. Does Grayson County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Giles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
